MOONEY FLIGHT TRAINING COURSE RECEIVES FAA RECOGNITION

Flight Training Inc. training syllabus among first cited for compliance with FITS requirements

KERRVILLE, TXThe training syllabus developed by Flight Training, Inc. of San Antonio for the Garmin G1000 equipped Mooney Ovation2 and Bravo models has received recognition from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for meeting the agency’s innovative new FAA/Industry Training Standards (FITS) for technically advanced aircraft.  The five-day flight training package is included with the purchase of each new Mooney airplane.  Flight Training, Inc. is the exclusive, factory-authorized flight training provider for the Mooney Airplane Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mooney Aerospace Group (MNYG.ob).

“This designation of the Mooney flight training curriculum is significant because it underscores our emphasis on providing our customers with practical, safe and up-to-date instruction that equips them to make the most efficient use of their aircraft and systems,” said David Copeland, Mooney vice president of sales and marketing.  “It is one of the first aircraft-specific courses in the nation to receive this FITS designation and the staff at Flight Training Inc. can be deservedly proud of this accomplishment.

The course entitled Mooney FITS Scenario Based Transition Training Syllabus includes two days of academic instruction and three days of practical flight experience.  The first day is devoted to aircraft systems management.  The second day focuses exclusively on the Garmin G1000 avionics suite and incorporates instruction on a desktop simulator.  The final three days feature scenario-based flight training where students receive instruction in aircraft handling and maneuvers, situational awareness and decision making as part of actual, real world flights.

“Our curriculum is dynamic and evolving,” noted Trey Hughes, president of Flight Training, Inc.  “It’s designed to demonstrate and integrate the use of new advanced technology like the G1000 system into a typical flight scenario rather than simply offering classroom exposure to its capabilities and then flying off to a practice area where students conduct a standard list of training maneuvers.  Scenario-based instruction helps build pilot confidence and allows us to train better in less time and at less cost.”

The FAA/Industry Training Standards program is a partnership between the FAA, industry and academia designed to enhance general aviation safety.  Key academic contributors include Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, FL and the University of North Dakota in Fargo.  The program has established specific requirements which emphasize convenience, accessibility, and relevance to emerging technologies and the National Airspace System.
